Gospel music star, Sinach, has been sued by music producer Michael Oluwole, also known as Maye, for alleged copyright infringement over her 2016 hit song “Way Maker.”
In the lawsuit (FHC/L/CS/402/2024), Maye is demanding N5 billion in damages, claiming to be a co-author and co-owner of the song. He is seeking a declaration recognizing his rights and compensation for the alleged infringement of his intellectual property.
Sinach has denied the claims, asserting that she is the sole author of the song and highlighting her global success even before the release of “Way Maker.”
The case, which began at the Federal High Court in Lagos on November 27, 2024, has been adjourned to January 29 and 30, 2025 for further hearings.
