Gotring Wuritka Dauda is the newly appointed Managing Director of OPay Nigeria, a prominent fintech company in Africa.
Before joining OPay, Dauda served as the Director of the trade and exchange department at the Central Bank of Nigeria, showcasing his extensive experience in the financial services industry.
He hails from Plateau State, Nigeria, and has actively participated in the state’s political landscape, having contested for the Plateau state gubernatorial seat in a past Nigerian general election.
Dauda’s appointment as the Managing Director of OPay Nigeria follows the departure of Olu Akanmu from the same role.
The appointment is currently pending regulatory approval, indicating the company’s adherence to the necessary procedures.
As a seasoned industry professional, Dauda is expected to lead OPay Nigeria in its efforts to deepen financial inclusion in the country, building on the company’s rapid growth and success.
OPay Nigeria has become one of Africa’s fastest-growing fintech companies, achieving unicorn status in 2021 after a successful funding round led by SoftBank, raising $400 million.
With over 30 million users, approximately 500,000 agents, and more than 300,000 merchants, OPay Nigeria has played a significant role in making payments efficient in underserved regions of Nigeria.
During Nigeria’s cash crunch and currency redesign, OPay Nigeria gained popularity as a reliable alternative to traditional banks, earning praise from users for providing efficient payment solutions.
As OPay Nigeria marks its fifth anniversary in the country, Dauda’s leadership and expertise are expected to drive the company’s continued growth and impact in Nigeria’s financial services sector.
