Gotring Dauda appointed as new Managing Director of OPay Nigeria

Lagos, Nigeria – OPay Nigeria, one of the largest and fastest-growing fintech companies in Africa, has announced the appointment of Gotring Wuritka Dauda as its new Managing Director. This comes after the recent departure of Olu Akanmu from the same role last week. Gotring Wuritka Dauda will now be responsible for leading the company’s operations in the country.

In a statement released on its social media platform and reported by Technext, OPay Nigeria confirmed the departure of Olu Akanmu while also announcing the appointment of the new Managing Director. However, the appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

Mr. Gotring Wuritka Dauda is a seasoned veteran in the financial services industry, with previous experience as the director of the trade and exchange department at the Central Bank of Nigeria. He also contested for the Plateau state gubernatorial seat in the last Nigerian general elections.

The company expressed confidence in Mr. Gotring’s abilities to steer OPay Nigeria in the direction of even greater achievements in the financial services sector. As the company’s new Managing Director, he will play a crucial role in consolidating its financial inclusion drive and contributing to Nigeria’s economic development.

OPay Nigeria has become a significant player in the fintech space, boasting over 30 million users, approximately 500,000 agents, and more than 300,000 merchants. It achieved unicorn status in 2021 after raising $400 million in a funding round led by SoftBank, demonstrating its rapid growth and success.

Throughout its operation, OPay Nigeria has been instrumental in providing efficient payment solutions in underserved regions, aiding emerging markets in achieving faster economic growth. During Nigeria’s cash crunch, the platform gained popularity as a reliable alternative to traditional banks, garnering praise from users who found it to be a lifesaver during the scarcity of physical currency.
