Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the abduction of 20 medical students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos by suspected kidnappers.
The students were ambushed and taken by gunmen along the Otukpo-Enugu highway on Thursday evening while on their way to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students Annual Convention in Enugu State.
In response to the incident, Governor Alia directed security agencies in the state to intensify their efforts to ensure the safe release of the abducted students.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, the governor expressed his deep concern over the abduction, condemning it in the strongest terms.
He also warned the criminal elements operating within Benue State to find another base, asserting that his administration will not relent in its efforts to stamp out all forms of criminality in the state.
