Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has congratulated Honourable Alfred Aondover Emberga, member representing Makurdi North State Constituency, on his election as the new Speaker of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly.

Emberga was elected on Sunday, August 24, 2025, during an emergency plenary that followed the resignation of the immediate past Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.

In a statement issued on Monday, Governor Alia described Emberga’s emergence as a reflection of the confidence his colleagues have in him, as well as his commitment to democratic values.

The governor expressed optimism that the new Speaker would provide purposeful leadership and ensure the Assembly continues to pass laws and policies that improve the welfare of the people.

Alia also called for continued cooperation among the legislature, executive, and judiciary, stressing that synergy among the three arms of government is crucial for sustainable development and the delivery of democratic dividends.

While commending the contributions of the former Speaker, Dajoh, the governor pledged his full support to Emberga and other lawmakers in their legislative duties.
