Gov Alia vows to protect Benue people against terrorists

Governor Hyacinth Alia has declared that his administration will not stand idly by while bandits continue to wreak havoc, destroy lives, and take over communities in Benue State.

He assured the public that his government is diligently working to address the security challenges facing the state.

In a statement released by the Principal Special Assistant (PSA) to the Governor on Media, Bridget Ikyado, Governor Alia made this commitment during a visit to communities in the Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) of the state that have recently suffered attacks by armed herdsmen. He revealed plans to establish a military post in Abaji town to prevent further assaults on communities in that region of the state.

Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Sam Ode, the Governor conveyed truckloads of relief materials to the victims and addressed the affected communities at various locations including the Ichongo Traditional Council, Jato Aka, RCM Special Science Primary School in Nyihemba, and the Achia Primary Health Care in Usambeliev Ikyurav ya. He also directed an increase in personnel at the Police Station in Jato Aka.

Governor Alia emphasized, “To curb the activities of the marauders, a military post will be established in Abaji to prevent bandits from attacking farmers in Anyiase, Abande, and Nundugh. The Police Commissioner has been tasked with providing 50 additional Police personnel to reinforce the Police Station in Jato Aka.”

The Governor disclosed plans to commence boundary demarcation between Benue, Taraba, Cameroon, Ebonyi, and Nasarawa states next month. This measure, he noted, will serve as a non-kinetic approach to addressing insecurity within the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Joseph Alakali, and Chairman of the Kwande Local Government Council, Rev. Mark Hule, reassured the people of the Governor’s unwavering commitment to their welfare and safety.
