Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has sworn in three judges previously excluded by the administration of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.
The ceremony, held at the Festival Hall in Government House, comes months after five judges recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC) were sworn in last May, leaving three unappointed despite NJC approval.
Governor Okpebholo, referencing his inaugural promise to address the matter, emphasized his commitment to correcting past injustices. “No one should be discriminated against, marginalized, or excluded for personal reasons or due to the absence of a godfather,” he stated.
The governor highlighted the judiciary’s crucial role in ensuring fair dispute resolution, protecting citizens’ rights, and upholding justice. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to strengthening the judiciary under the principle of Separation of Powers.
The newly sworn-in judges—Ojo Maureen Osa, Okundamiya Godwin Jeff, and Edoghogho Eboigbe—will now join the Edo State High Court bench.
Speaking on behalf of her colleagues, Justice Ojo Maureen Osa expressed gratitude to the governor for swiftly addressing their case. She pledged their commitment to dispensing justice impartially and prayed for the governor’s successful tenure.
