Gov. Ortom approves employment of 375 graduates into BIRS

The Executive Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom has approved the recruitment of 375 Graduates into Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), as a means to engage more unemployed youth.

The governor made this revelation today during a Radio Benue phone-in-programme, issues of the moment when he informed that his administration has decided to inject new blood into the state ccivil service through BIRS.

He further noted that the employment of new graduates will not only curb unemployment but also block tax leakages which is in line with his administration’s five points agenda to ensure revenue security.

Governor Ortom further reiterated his resolve to sanitize the Tax administration in state when he also acknowledged that he has terminated the contracts all tax agents who were earlier on engaged to help collect taxes on behalf of the state.

It is worthy to note that this declaration will not only serve as revenue security being that the agents previously were ripping the state of valuable revenue returns and feeding fat at the expense of the Benue economy & the people.

This is even as the engagement of tax agents has further deepened the issue of insecurity in the state as the sprouting of illegal tax points has also generated several security challenges in the state.
