Gov. Ortom calls for special courts for kidnappers as Benue Judiciary holds valedictory session for late Hon. Justice Tine Tur

Disturbed by the increasing cases of kidnappings in the country and the low rate of prosecution of offenders, Benue State governor,Samuel Ortom has advocated the establishment of special courts to handle such cases.

He spoke through his deputy, Engr Benson Abounu at the valedictory court session held at the premises of the State High Court,Makurdi in honour of late judge of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Tine Tur, whose wife and sister-in-law have remained in the hands of kidnappers since their abduction over a year ago.

Governor Ortom described the late judge as a man of impeccable character, a great ambassador of Benue state, who died, unfortunately in his prime, traumatised by the abduction of his wife and sister-in-law.

Governor Ortom who said the state took the bold step of enacting a law against kidnapping and cultism and imposed stringent penalties for offenders lamented that since 2017 when the law was enacted, not one single person has been successfully prosecuted; a fact he blames on the slow judicial process and the attitude of some legal practitioners, who take delight in unnecessary adjournments.

The remains of the late Justice Joseph Tine Tur, who died at the age of 63 shall be committed to earth tomorrow at his ancestral home
