By Emmanuel Nzomiwu

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State would be at the University of Nigeria Nsukka to deliver the maiden memorial lecture of Professor Miriam Ikejiani Clark on the theme, “The State and Management of Farmers/ Headsmen Conflict in Nigeria: Lessons from the Benue Valley.”

Dr Ifeanyichukwu Abada, the head of Department, Political Science, disclosed this at a press conference in Nsukka on Monday.

According to Abada, Ortom would on May 7 deliver the maiden edition of the memorial lecture of Prof Miriam Ikejiani-Clark organized by department of Political Science, UNN.

Abada, the chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNN chapter, said the lecture would help to proffer solutions to the clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the country.

He explained that the department decided to honour and institute a memorial lecture for Ikejiani-Clark because of her contributions to the country and political science in particular.

He said until the death of Ikejiani-Clark in 2011, she held several positions in the university, including the dean, Faculty of Social Science, head of Department of Political Science, coordinator of Postgraduate Programmes, among others.

Abada said the erudite professor also held public appointments since 1983 when she was appointed the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Town Planning during the administration of Governor C.C Onoh, in old Anambra State.

He recalled that Ikejiani-Clark was appointed a Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from 1995 -1997 and it was during her time that the popular Dei Dei Building Material Market Abuja was established.”
