Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has revealed plans to recruit 9,700 teachers as part of his administration’s efforts to improve the student-teacher ratio across the state.
The move, announced during the burial ceremony of Tor Jechira, Chief Clement Uganden, in Vandeikya Local Government Area, is aimed at boosting the quality of education in public schools throughout Benue.
Governor Alia emphasized that the recruitment drive would not only provide employment opportunities for qualified youths but also fulfill one of his administration’s key campaign promises to revolutionize the education sector.
“This measure will address the shortage of primary and secondary school teachers in our schools and enhance the quality of learning in the state,” he stated.
Alia called for the establishment of Young Farmers Clubs across Benue.
These clubs, he said, would engage the youth in agricultural production, with government support to access farmlands, tractors, fertilizers, and other essential inputs.
“Our goal is to ensure that the people of Benue, particularly farmers, are not only self-sufficient but can also benefit financially from the sale of their farm produce,” the governor added.
Governor Alia urged the youth, women, and elderly to collaborate with his administration to achieve the desired level of development in the state.
Former Governor of Benue State, Sen. Gabriel Suswam, lauded the progress made by Alia’s administration over the past year and called on all Benue residents, regardless of political affiliation, to support the government.
Suswam also paid tribute to the late Chief Uganden, describing him as a man of integrity who was committed to truth, peace, and the development of the state.
He noted that Uganden’s passing has left a significant void not only in the traditional institution but also in the state and the country at large, and called for prayers for the bereaved family.
