Gov Alia approves N75,000 minimum wage for Benue workers

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has revealed that no government employee in the state currently earns less than ₦75,000 as a monthly salary.
Speaking during his first-ever media chat on Thursday, Governor Alia provided an overview of his administration’s achievements and addressed key issues ranging from governance to economic reforms.
He emphasized that prioritizing the welfare of civil servants has been central to his leadership, adding that the upward review of the minimum wage was part of efforts to cushion the impact of inflation and motivate the state’s workforce.
“The least-paid worker in Benue now takes home ₦75,000 monthly,” Alia stated. “We didn’t just make promises we implemented real change.”
He explained that the decision to exceed the former national minimum wage was driven by a desire to uplift workers’ morale and restore dignity to public service, following years of unpaid salaries and irregular payments under previous administrations.
The governor highlighted broader strides in economic development, infrastructure expansion, and institutional reforms but stressed that workers’ well-being remains a key focus.
“We increased salary allocation from 70% to 75% of the monthly budget, yet we’re still executing multiple capital projects,” he added.
