Governor Ortom takes action as kidnappers take over Owukpa community
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has directed security agencies in the state to immediately resolve the lingering security crisis rocking Owukpa community in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of the state where kidnappers are currently on rampage.
IDOMA VOICE had reported that some assailants suspected to be kidnappers last week attacked the community where about three residents were abducted while others were injured.
The attackers who were armed with sophisticated weapons abducted a Catechist attached to the St Mary’s Immaculate Church Aho, Mr Patrick Jerome.
Our correspondent learnt that with the efforts of the family members and the church, the Catechist was freed after a ransom was paid on Friday.
Barely 24 hours after his release, the gunmen numbering about ten invaded the Aho market in the community and whisked away wife of a popular business man, Aaron Gabriel also called Randy and one other resident to an unknown destination.
Following the incidents, in a chat with DAILY POST on Wednesday, Terver Akase, the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, revealed that his principal has directed security agencies in the state to tackle the insecurity in the area.
He said, “The governor has directed that urgent measure be taken to end insecurity issues in that community”.
Similarly, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene Sewuese in a recent chat with our correspondent, said although the incident was yet to be reported to the command, the DPO in the area would be contacted for immediate actions.
“I have not received this but I will contact the DPO for actions”, the PPRO stated.
