In response to the recent removal of fuel subsidy and the economic challenges it poses, the Ogun State government has announced a series of measures aimed at easing the burden on its citizens. These measures, which will be implemented immediately, are designed to ameliorate the effects of the fuel subsidy removal and support the well-being of the people in the state.
The approved measures include:
Cash palliative of N10,000 for each public servant, including pensioners, for a period of three months starting from July 2023. This is to help workers cope with the economic shocks caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.
Approval of hazard allowance for all health and medical personnel in the state, acknowledging their critical role in the current circumstances.
Approval of peculiar allowance for public servants in the state to provide additional support.
Immediate release of Letters of Promotion for the years 2021 and 2022 to boost the morale of workers.
Payment of March and April 2023 leave bonuses for public servants in the state to address financial needs.
Immediate cash-backing for the quarterly payment of gratuities to pensioners, ensuring timely support.
Introduction of a flexible work schedule for government employees, with 20% of staff to be off-duty daily, to ease the impact of the fuel price increase.
Commencement of food palliatives for vulnerable citizens, including essential items such as rice, garri, beans, and maize.
Establishment of distribution outlets across the state by the Gateway Trading Company, ensuring the sale of items at rates obtainable before the fuel price increase.
Subsidized and controlled prices for fertilizers and other farm inputs, supporting farmers and agricultural productivity.
Conversion of State Mass Transit buses to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to reduce transportation costs, with public transportation rates comparable to pre-deregulation levels.
Immediate intervention in road infrastructure projects, with local governments collaborating with Community Development Associations and Community Leaders to identify and prioritize roads that require urgent attention.
Additionally, the state government will offer support to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through special schemes, aimed at boosting production capacity and generating employment opportunities.
