The five candidates on the English Premier League’s shortlist for August’s Manager of the Month award have been made public.
Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, who oversaw his team’s perfect month to start the new season, is at the top of the list of contenders. As they exploded out of the gates in August, the Gunners won each of their five games. Aston Villa and Fulham were defeated late at the Emirates Stadium at the end of the month, and they began the season with a commanding 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace.
Following Tottenham’s undefeated start to the season, Antonio Conte has also been nominated from north London. With Chelsea and West Ham, two rivals in London, Spurs won three times, drew the other two, and tied Chelsea at the very end.
Graham Potter, the new manager of Chelsea, is also nominated, following an outstanding August with Brighton and Hove Albion. The Seagulls started off a fantastic month by defeating Manchester United at Old Trafford, but their unbeaten streak came to an end at the hands of Fulham, whose manager, Marco Silva, is on the shortlist – the Cottagers having had a quick start back in the top tier following promotion.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, rounds up the list. Only a thrilling 3-3 draw away at Newcastle marred the Citizens’ perfect start to the season.
