South African star Tyla has emerged winner of the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards, edging out Nigerian heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido and Ayra Starr.

Tyla secured the honour with her hit track “Push 2 Start,” triumphing over Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido’s “With You” featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s “Gimme Dat,” as well as “Hope & Love” by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.

The category, created to showcase African music on the global stage, once again highlighted Nigeria’s dominance on the continent, with three Nigerian artistes making the final shortlist.

With this latest win, Tyla becomes a two-time recipient of the award, having first claimed the title in 2024 with “Water,” which made her the inaugural winner of the category.
