Groom, three friends arrested for allegedly killing bride during marathon sex
Authorities in Jigawa State have arrested a 20-year-old groom, Auwal Abdulwahab, along with three of his friends, in connection with the death of his newlywed wife following a reported case of coerced sexual activity.
The Jigawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrests in an official statement.
According to Shiisu, the tragic incident occurred on April 26, 2025, around 10:00 PM in Tungo village, Albasu District of Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Abdulwahab allegedly conspired with three friends — identified as Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa — to force his wife into non-consensual sexual acts.
“The groom is alleged to have conspired with his three friends Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa entered their matrimonial home, and coerced his bride into non-consensual sexual activity, during which she tragically died,” Shiisu said.
Investigators believe that the couple had been experiencing marital disputes related to sexual relations prior to the fatal incident.
Following a distress call, police officers arrived at the scene and transported the victim to Gumel General Hospital, where doctors confirmed her death. Her remains were subsequently released to her family for burial rites.
Meanwhile, the groom and his three alleged accomplices remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dutse for a thorough and discreet investigation.
Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects will be prosecuted. Shiisu confirmed that they are expected to face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide under relevant laws.
