Group seeks end to Jukun/Tiv crisis

The Jukun Youth Assembly of Nigeria (JYAN) has called on the Taraba State government and security agencies to put in place necessary mechanisms to end the rivalry between the Jukun and Tiv in the state.

National Speaker of the association, Amb. Hope Daniel made the call at a press conference in Jalingo.

Daniel said the unity, harmony and peaceful coexistence of Taraba State particularly among the Jukun and Tiv in the southern part of the state remained the primary quest of the association.

“It pains our hearts seeing the unfortunate crisis between the Jukuns and the Tiv defying all relevant effort and series of consultative meetings to find solutions for it.

“The Youths under the aforementioned body, have seen the need to unite the two warring tribes in order to work together with the relevant authorities to come up with workable measures for ending the lingering crisis as soon as possible,” the group said.

The group which decried the inciting comments of Mr. Benjamin Bako on the crisis and his persistent attacks on Governor Darius Ishaku called on traditional and political stakeholders to urgently call Mr. Benjamin Bako the self acclaimed National President of Jukun Development Association of Nigeria (JDAN) to order.

Amb. Daniel challenged Mr. Bako to proffer solutions to the issues on ground and stop creating issues capable of causing discord and igniting conflagration that cannot be quenched.

“Mr Bako has become a tool and agent used by either politicians or enemies of the JUKUN Nation to cause chaos and inflict the spirit of discord amongst us.

“His attacks on the personality of the Governor is ill motivated which can not be seen as a political or social criticism but rather, an attack that is sponsored by the enemies of JUKUN nation.

“We therefore, call on traditional and political leaders as well as religious leaders to caution Mr. Bako to put an end to his mischief,” part of the statement read.

When contacted, Mr. Benjamin Bako declined comments on the allegations, saying “I know that the story you are going to write will not favour me so there is no need talking to you,” he said.
