Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, expressed confidence in their prospects of clinching the Champions League this season, asserting that it will be a smoother journey compared to their initial triumph.
Having secured the Premier League title in June for the first time, the reigning champions are keen on defending their hard-won honor.
Responding to inquiries about City’s odds of retaining the title prior to their Group G debut against Red Star Belgrade at home, Guardiola conveyed during his Monday press conference: “It’ll prove less challenging. The inaugural victory remains the toughest. It’s been an amazing achievement for us, but it stands as just one.”
Nonetheless, Guardiola emphasized the importance of not allowing complacency to creep in amongst his players, stating: “Tomorrow marks the initial stride. We’re aiming to secure the initial three points.”
“It’s important the players don’t feel relaxed. For our club to win the Champions League is incredible, but in perspective, how many [clubs have] won one Champions League? A lot.
“We haven’t done anything special with just one, but we are incredibly proud.”
