Edward David Onoja, the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, faced a setback as his stronghold, Olamaboro, shifted allegiance to the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Reports from the election revealed a notable lead for the SDP with 22,173 votes, surpassing the All Progressive Congress (APC) to which Onoja is affiliated, securing 5,572 votes in Olamaboro.
The official result, signed by Ogbufa Chukwudi, the collation officer of the Local Government, solidified this unexpected turn. This defeat followed an earlier report of Onoja losing even his own polling unit to the SDP, further emphasizing the magnitude of this political shift.
Additionally, Senator Dino Melaye, representing the Peoples Democratic Party, accrued 1,376 votes in this constituency.
The total voter turnout in Olamaboro Local Government was recorded at 30,226 votes. However, a staggering 29,731 votes were rejected, with an additional 495 deemed invalid. This suggests a noteworthy disparity between the actual counted votes and those disregarded, highlighting potential discrepancies in the voting process.
