Guinness World Records has taken a clear stance, publicly distancing itself from a Nigerian man who endeavored to break an unusual record for the longest crying marathon by an individual.
Tembu Ebere, the aspiring record-breaker, aimed to set a new benchmark by continuously crying for seven days straight. However, in an interview with BBC on Sunday, Ebere revealed that his ambitious pursuit came with unexpected consequences. During the attempt, he experienced a distressing incident of partial blindness, lasting for a startling 45 minutes.
As he struggled through the challenge, Ebere encountered severe physical effects, including headaches, puffy eyes, and a swollen face, prompting him to reconsider his approach. He decided to reduce the intensity of his wailing to alleviate the strain.
“I had to re-strategize and reduce my wailing,” Ebere disclosed, remaining undeterred in his determination to fulfill his week-long crying feat despite the encountered difficulties.
Despite his resolute efforts, Guinness World Records has disavowed any association with this particular record attempt. The organization made it unequivocally clear that they never sanctioned or approved such a category and, as a result, could not officially monitor or recognize it.
In a statement addressing the matter, Guinness World Records asserted that they focus on monitoring and recognizing achievements that can be objectively measured and verified by their team.
