On Friday, a group of armed individuals abducted 25 choir members from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Oke-Igan, Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
The victims were traveling to Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of the state to attend the burial ceremony of a parent of one of the choir members.
Sources from the church reported that this abduction has caused immense distress within the families and the church community.
An anonymous source stated that the kidnapped choir members began their journey from Akure in a church-branded vehicle. However, the vehicle was later found abandoned on the roadside in the Elegbeka community.
The Owo-Ifon-Benin road, where the abduction took place, has gained notoriety as a hotspot for criminal activities such as kidnappings and armed robberies, mainly due to its poor condition.
The Ondo State Police Command has assured the public of its dedication to ensuring the safe return of the abducted victims. They have deployed the police anti-kidnapping squad and other tactical teams to the area to rescue the victims and apprehend those involved in the crime.
