Usman Sahabi, Chief of Staff to Bathiya Wesley, the Speaker of the Adamawa House of Assembly, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.
Reports from multiple sources indicate that Sahabi was kidnapped at approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday from his residence in Wurro-Chekke, a community located in the Yola South local government area of Adamawa State.
According to one of the sources, a group of five armed men forcibly entered his home at 1:00 a.m. and took him away at gunpoint from his room.
Usman Sahabi, formerly a staff member of the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), served as a reporter for the radio house at the Assembly before being appointed as the Chief of Staff by the Speaker.
Sahabi’s family has been contacted by the abductors, who are demanding a ransom of N20 million for his release.
The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction and has pledged to do everything in its power to secure the release of the journalist. SP Sulaiman Nguroje, the spokesperson for the command, stated that they have deployed all available operational resources for the rescue mission.
He said: “We deployed our operational manpower and we are working round the clock to ensure that the abducted journalist is rescued alive.
“We have not rested on our oars since we learnt about the incident and are giving the criminals a hot chase till we rescue the journalist alive and apprehend the perpetrators.
“DC operations have finished coordinating all rescue efforts and wish to assure his safe return to his family.”
