Gunmen have killed Muhammad Adamu, the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attack occurred on Wednesday evening at Adamu’s residence shortly after he broke his fast.

The State Chairman of MACBAN, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed the incident and condemned it, urging security agencies to investigate and apprehend the perpetrators. He stated, “We call on security agencies to investigate and fish out those behind this heinous act so that they will face the full wrath of the law.”

A local youth leader, Alhaji Danjuma Ibrahim, noted that this was the third attempt on Adamu’s life, with the previous two being unsuccessful. He described the attack as unfortunate, highlighting Adamu’s significant role in promoting peace within the Barkin Ladi area. Ibrahim added that security personnel, including police and soldiers, responded promptly to the incident.

The Plateau State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, stated that he was not yet aware of the incident, as official communication channels had not relayed the information.

This tragic event adds to a series of targeted attacks against MACBAN leaders across Nigeria in recent years. Notably, in March 2025, four Fulani leaders, including a MACBAN chairman, were killed by gunmen in Kwara State. Similarly, in September 2023, a 70-year-old Fulani leader was killed in Plateau State. These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of MACBAN officials nationwide.

The community and MACBAN are calling for thorough investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice and to prevent further escalation of violence in the region.
