A commercial bus driver identified as Chidubem was wounded when suspected kidnappers opened fire on his vehicle on Ahoko Bridge on the Abuja-Lokoja Road.
A resident of Ahoko village, simply identified as Ibrahim, said the incident happened around 8pm.
He said the driver who was conveying passengers from Enugu State to Abuja sustained a bullet wound on his left hand, and that the gunmen ran into the bush upon hearing gunshots from vigilantes who were on patrol.
A vigilante, who was part of the operation but preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying the intervention of the vigilantes forced out the kidnappers.
The vigilante further said a suspected kidnapper who came to buy foodstuff in Ahoko had been apprehended and handed over to the police.
The spokesman of the police in Kogi, CSP Williams Ovye Aya, did not pick calls or reply to an SMS sent to him as at the time of filing this report.
