Unknown gunmen attacked the residence of Maharazu Dayi, Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government Area in Katsina State, late Tuesday, killing a police officer.
The officer, identified as Police Corporal Shamsudeen Lawal, was shot during the assault and later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital where he was being treated.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abubakar Sadiq stated, “The officer was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead upon arrival.” He also confirmed that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack, and investigations are ongoing.
While details on other potential victims remain unclear, it was reported that the security forces successfully prevented the assailants from breaching the residence.
An eyewitness, speaking on condition of anonymity, told PUNCH Metro that Dayi and his family were inside the house during the attack.
