The Caretaker Chairman Agatu Local Government Council, Hon Usman Alilu S had in a very strong term, condemned the unfortunate attacks on Okokolo People on Tuesday 11th February 2020 at a burial in Okokolo village around 10pm by yet to be identified gunmen.
The Caretaker Chairman who on getting the information, immediately rushed to Okokolo with heavy security men to obtain first hand information, stated in a telephone conversation with newsmen that, it was unfortunate, barbaric and inhuman for anyone to visit people who were mourning their loved one and shot sporadically at that ugly hour when people were supposed to be resting peacefully in their abodes, saying the attacks were coming when Government had made frantic efforts to restore peace to Agatu.
He directed Operation Whirl-Stroke, Air Force and Mobile Police men to as a matter of urgency, unmasked the identities of those behind the Attacks.
In the course of moving from one place to the other for assessment at Okokolo village where invaders attacked, empty shells from used bullets were found in many places. According to Agatu Council Boss, there was no casualties in the attack. He however appealed to youths in Okokolo to be calm and avoid the temptation of taking laws into their hands, adding that, government would not fold it’s hands on the matter.
Recall that, a yet to be identified gunmen in their numbers, on Tuesday 11th February 2020, attached Okokolo people at about 10pm when residents were at a burial of one of their loved one, late Mrs George Ikwulono (Ene-Lucky) and shot sporadically causing serious tension at the time.
