Gunmen kidnap Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Marcellinus Okide in Enugu

A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr Marcellinus Obioma Okide, has been kidnapped in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Okide was kidnapped on Sunday along the Eke-Egede-Affa-Akpakwume Nze road in the State.

The cleric, who serves at St. Mary Amofia-Agu Affa Parish, was said to be en route his parish when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The incident has been confirmed by the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe.

Ndukwe stated that three other persons were alleged to have been kidnapped along with the cleric.

In a statement on Monday, Ndukwe said the Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of more operatives and operational resources of the Command for the immediate rescue of the cleric.

“The deployment is to aid the ongoing rescue operation of the victims while the CP has assured that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring the rescue of the victims and fishing out of the perpetrators. Further development shall be communicated, please,” he added.
