Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly abducted an unspecified number of employees from Dangote Cement Company Plc in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to sources, the abduction occurred on Monday after the close of business hours. Allegedly, the victims were traveling back to the Okpella community in a Coaster bus when they were intercepted and taken at gunpoint.
A source within the community, speaking to journalists, claimed that the assailants, who had laid an ambush, emerged from the bushes, halted the bus at gunpoint, and then abducted the passengers, leading them into the wilderness.
Confirming the incident, the source stated, “Yes, they were in a Coaster bus heading to Okpella when they were seized by gunmen. However, we are uncertain about the precise number of workers who were abducted.”
As of press time, the Edo State Police Command had not officially confirmed the incident. Calls and messages to the State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, and the Public Relations Officer of the command, Chidi Nwabuzor, remained unanswered.
