Gunmen have reportedly abducted several passengers on the Otukpo – Enugu expressway, along Olanyega/Ogbodo road in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.
It was gathered that the the incident occurred at about 2:30 pm on Sunday.
DAILY POST learnt that the incident caused panic among motorists plying that section of the expressway, which is a notorious spot for armed robbery attacks.
The gunmen went away with several passengers and motorists as five vehicles, including a bus belonging to the state-owned Benue Links, were emptied of their occupants.
It was learnt that soldiers at a military checkpoint on the expressway trailed the assailants after the incident.
An eyewitness, Edumoga National President, Chief John Onoja, who narrowly escaped the incident, disclosed that several passengers were abducted.
The Olanyega/Ogbodo spot on the Otukpo-Enugu expressway has over time become unsafe for commuters and passengers.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine Anekwe, confirmed the incident, adding that it is being investigated.
