Gunmen kill Babcock University professor, Yinka Olomojobi, kidnap two others

Gunmen have struck at Babcock University, Ilishan, Ogun State, claiming the life of Professor Yinka Olomojobi, a distinguished figure in the field of law, and abducting two others in the Iperu area.

According to reports, the assailants fatally shot Olomojobi on Friday after he reportedly resisted their attempts to abduct him. Concurrently, two residents were forcibly taken by the armed perpetrators to an undisclosed location.

Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed that one suspect has been apprehended in connection with the incident.

“A two-week-old security guard has been detained based on reasonable suspicion as the police launch a discreet investigation,” stated Odutola.

Detailing the sequence of events, Odutola stated, “A kidnapping and murder incident occurred on the 19th of April, 2024, at approximately 9:20 pm, as reported by the Iperu Division.”

“The recent employment of Awada Ishaya, hailing from Plateau state, as a security guard at the event center where the incident took place, raised suspicion, leading to his arrest for further interrogation,” she added.

Following the attack, Professor Olomojobi was rushed to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the perpetrators and secure the safe release of the kidnapped victims. Authorities have assured the public of ongoing updates as the investigation progresses.
