Gunmen kill farmer, injure two others in Benue community
A farmer, Mr. Tachia Akor, was shot dead and two women injured when suspected armed bandits invaded Tse Akor Gbatse community in the Mbamar clan of Nyiev Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, in the early hours of Sunday, September 14, 2025.
Residents said the attack occurred between midnight and 1 a.m., less than 24 hours after community members reportedly warned the Benue State Government and security agencies of an imminent strike by suspected herdsmen.
A source, who asked not to be named, said the attackers opened fire on farmers near a primary school known as “Thank You Suswam,” a few metres from Daudu town along the Daudu–Lafia road. Mr. Akor was killed on the spot, while his wife and Mrs. Mbagbedi Tsetim sustained serious injuries and were taken to Adi Hospital in Daudu. Several other villagers were said to be missing as of press time, and the victim’s body has been deposited at the Daudu morgue.
According to the source, intelligence reports received on September 12 indicated that armed herders, allegedly angered by the disappearance of three of their children, were camped at Rukubi town in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and planning to attack border settlements in Guma.
“Despite the warning, the attackers still stormed Tse Akor village. Some of them have been sighted moving through deserted villages in the area,” the resident said, urging authorities to flush out the assailants.
Benue State Police Command spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet confirmed the incident. “Our men were deployed immediately and investigation is ongoing. Normalcy has returned to the area,” Edet stated.
