Parishioners and residents of Ikot Ekang, a serene community in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state, are in mourning following the heinous murder of Apostle Elisha Asuquo, the founder of the Mount of Solution Redeemed Church (MSRC), and Pastor Aniekan Ibanga.
Gunmen, yet to be identified, stormed the National Headquarters of the Church around 7:30 pm last weekend, disrupting a Parish meeting and leaving devastation in their wake.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants arrived on motorcycles, perpetrated the crime, and fled via the Abak-Ikot Ekpene Federal Highway.
Apostle Asuquo, a native of Adiasim in Essien Udim Local Government Area, was deeply involved in a sensitive marital reconciliation case before the tragic incident.
Bishop John Jeremiah Kpongkpong, a community leader in Ikot Ekang, expressed shock over the killings, emphasizing that such violence was unprecedented in the community.
The news spread quickly, prompting Chief Christopher Udotim and a delegation from Ikot Obio Ikpa Village, Pastor Aniekan’s hometown, to seek answers from the Village Head about any preceding issues that might have led to the tragedy.
The Youth Presidents of both villages echoed the sentiments of grief and loss, urging cooperation in the investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.
In response, the Village Head of Ikot Ekang called for thorough police investigation and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to bring the culprits to justice.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Odiko MacDon, assured that the Commissioner of Police had ordered a manhunt for the suspects and emphasized ongoing discreet inquiries into the matter.
