Just 48 hours following the audacious raid by gunmen on the Army Estate in Kurudu, during which several residents were abducted, another incident unfolded as kidnappers targeted Abuja highway. In this recent event, Abdullahi Sabo and his spouse were kidnapped when gunmen opened fire on their vehicle in Sabon-Lugbe, along Airport Road in the nation’s capital.
Abdullahi Sabo, driving his Ash-colored Lexus Jeep with registration number ABC 769 TP, became a victim of the assailants who, riding in an unmarked Golf car, fired at his vehicle and punctured its tires during the journey home.
According to reports from Daily Trust, the attackers successfully immobilized the vehicle, prompting Abdullahi’s wife to escape before they could approach the Jeep. Daramola Joseph, a neighbor of the victim, shared, “They (kidnappers) shot the tires, forcing the vehicle to stop, but before they could get close to the jeep, the man’s wife had escaped. However, they went away with the husband.”
The unfortunate incident occurred as the couple was returning from the city center and heading towards the access road to Jedo Estate when the gunmen struck.
As of now, the police have not issued an official statement regarding the incident. Despite assurances from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to address and curb kidnappings, Abuja continues to grapple with a heightened level of insecurity, marking one of its most challenging periods in terms of safety and public well-being.
