Gunmen raid Federal University of Gusau, kidnap students in Zamfara

In the early hours of Friday, a group of bandits invaded the Sabon-Gida community in the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting more than 24 students from the Federal University of Gusau.

According to an anonymous student from the university, most of the abducted students were females. Nazeer Sabon-Gida, a resident of the community, confirmed the attack and stated that it occurred around 3 am, with the bandits opening fire indiscriminately.

He reported that the bandits targeted three student hostels and took away all the students present during the attack. The exact number of kidnapped students is yet to be confirmed.

According to another source, the bandits engaged in a fierce gun battle with Nigerian Army troops, but this did not prevent them from escaping with the kidnapped victims.

The Federal University of Gusau has experienced several incidents of student abductions in recent times, leading to protests by the students. Sabon-Gida village, where this incident occurred, is located near the main campus of the university, approximately 20 km from the state capital, Gusau.

Efforts to reach the university authorities were unsuccessful, and the police command in the state has not commented on the latest attack.
