A heartbreaking incident unfolded at BECO Comprehensive High School, Kwi, situated in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. In a shocking act of violence, a couple, identified as Mr and Mrs Rwang Danladi, who were both teachers and newly-wed, fell victim to a brutal attack by unidentified gunmen in broad daylight on Monday afternoon.
The couple had been engaged in a crucial meeting to compile students’ results, in preparation for the school’s upcoming 2023 Speech and Prize-Giving Day scheduled for this Friday. During this fateful gathering, the assailants stormed the school premises, ruthlessly ending the lives of the couple.
Tragically, the Vice Principal of the school, Mr Dalyop Emmanuel, also suffered grievous injuries as a result of the armed assault.
Mr Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement, a socio-cultural group, expressed profound sorrow in a statement issued from Jos. He disclosed that the distressing incident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
“Our hearts are heavy with grief over the invasion of BECO Comprehensive High School Kwi by armed gunmen. Two cherished educators, Mr and Mrs Rwang Danladi, who were recently wed, were fatally shot. The Vice Principal, Mr Dalyop Emmanuel, was gravely injured by the assailants.
“The teachers were diligently working on compiling students’ results in preparation for the school’s 2023 Speech and Prize-Giving Day, set for this Friday. The wounded individual is currently undergoing treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital,” Tengwong lamented.
The spokesperson deplored the surge of criminal activity in certain communities within the state.
“We urgently implore security operatives to take decisive action by conducting thorough operations in these communities that have unfortunately transformed into havens for criminals, notably Fass and Mahanga in Riyom.
“This step is vital to eradicate the criminal elements that have brazenly flouted law and order,” Tengwong emphasized.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Plateau, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the tragic event to journalists. While Alabo did not provide further details regarding the incident, he assured that law enforcement is taking the necessary steps to address the situation.
