Hardship in Nigeria: IPOB blows hot, warns against protest in Igboland

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) issued a warning on Tuesday cautioning against any protests in the Southeast concerning the current wave of hunger and economic difficulties gripping Nigeria.

IPOB stated that individuals who organize protests in the Southeast will face consequences for their actions.

In a statement by IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, it was emphasized that the ongoing economic hardships and hunger further fuel the group’s agitation for the realization of Biafra.

Powerful’s statement reads: “In light of the unprecedented hardship in Nigeria, we, the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu, hereby advise the people of Biafra against participating in any protests against hunger in Nigeria within Biafran territories. Any individual acting as an agent for Nigeria and organizing such protests in Biafraland will face regrettable consequences.

“The current challenges in Nigeria should be the concern of Nigerians, not Biafrans. Biafrans are no longer interested in Nigerian affairs. Biafrans have endured abuse, intimidation, violence, and disenfranchisement during recent elections. Despite being promised a chance to govern, the aftermath of these elections saw the destruction of Biafran properties and investments in the Western and Northern regions of Nigeria. Yet, no protests have been organized against these injustices.

“Anyone instigating protests against economic hardships in Biafraland is endangering Biafrans. While we acknowledge that Biafrans are affected by economic hardships resulting from misguided policies, we trust in the divine protection of Chukwu Okike Abiama. We sympathize with the suffering of other ethnic groups, but our hands are tied.

“The current situation underscores the necessity of Biafran independence. However, we must exercise prudence. Biafrans have made significant strides towards independence, which we anticipate achieving soon. Despite enduring the worst economic crises, Biafrans have persevered and will continue to do so.”

This statement from IPOB comes amidst escalating tensions and concerns over economic difficulties across Nigeria.
