Hardship in Nigeria: Tinubu group blames PDP governors

The Tinubu Media Support Group has lambasted governors affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of shirking their responsibilities.

In a statement released on Thursday by its Chairman, Jesutega Onokpasa, the group alleged that these governors, despite benefiting from increased allocations, are failing to address the hardships faced by their constituents.

The group condemned what it described as the “dishonorable and irresponsible” behavior of opposition governors who attempt to evade responsibility for mitigating the effects of fuel subsidy removal on the populace.

“It is insulting that those entrusted with the constitutional duty of ensuring citizen welfare are shifting the burden solely onto the federal government,” the statement read.

The group highlighted the substantial allocations received by states and local governments over the past eight months, yet lamented the reluctance of these governors to provide relief to Nigerians affected by the subsidy removal.

Furthermore, the group criticized the comparison made by some governors between Nigeria’s situation and Venezuela’s economic crisis, citing statistical disparities in inflation rates.

“It is preposterous that governors, who sit on the National Economic Council, are drawing parallels to Venezuela, a country grappling with a 190% inflation rate. Nigeria’s current inflation rate, at 28.94%, is comparable to August 2005 levels,” the statement clarified.

The group also refuted claims by the governors urging the federal government to take urgent action, asserting that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has been proactive in addressing both short-term emergencies and long-term food security challenges.
