Hardship: Nigerians may revolt, we can’t stop them – Sultan warns Tinubu

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has voiced deep concern about the widespread suffering, insecurity, and impoverishment plaguing Nigeria.
He warned that unless urgent actions are taken, the populace may soon reach a breaking point and resort to rebellion.

Addressing participants at the Arewa House in Kaduna during the 6th executive Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council meeting, the Sultan emphasized the efforts of traditional and religious leaders in pacifying the public, particularly the disaffected youth, to forestall any uprising against the current political leadership.

However, he acknowledged the growing difficulty in maintaining public calm, noting, “It is getting to a level that traditional leaders could no longer pacify the people from revolting against government and political leaders that are supposed to find solutions to their lingering socio-economic plight.”

The Sultan stressed the precarious balance, expressing hope that the populace would not lose faith in their leaders, saying, “I pray to Almighty Allah that they will not one day wake up and say we no longer believe in you, that would be the biggest problem.”

He highlighted the pressing issues of poverty and insecurity, attributing them to systemic failures rather than solely blaming the current government.

He urged collective introspection, stating, “What are the real issues bringing about poverty and rising cases of insecurity? I don’t think it is the issue of the new government. To me, this government is a continuation of the former government. It is the same party.”
