Harry Kane makes history as Bayern cruise into UCL quarter-finals

Harry Kane etched his name into the record books as Bayern Munich secured their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a commanding victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

The England striker struck in the 52nd minute, bundling home from close range after Patrik Schick’s failed clearance of a Joshua Kimmich free-kick. It was Kane’s 10th goal in Europe this season, setting a new record for the most goals scored by an English player in a single Champions League campaign.

With a 3-0 lead from the first leg, Bayern arrived in Leverkusen firmly in control, yet Vincent Kompany’s side threatened early on, with Michael Olise and Kingsley Coman both going close.

Leverkusen needed an aggressive approach in the second half but failed to muster a meaningful response. Jeremie Frimpong forced Jonas Urbig into a smart save, while Schick’s tame header was easily gathered by the Bayern goalkeeper. Missing their talisman Florian Wirtz due to an ankle ligament injury, the hosts lacked creativity and struggled to break Bayern’s defensive structure.

With Leverkusen pushing forward, Bayern capitalized on the open spaces. In the 71st minute, Alphonso Davies slotted home from close range after a pinpoint Harry Kane cross, sealing the tie. Kane nearly added another moments later, placing a shot wide under little pressure before rattling the crossbar with a sharp turn-and-shot. Jamal Musiala also struck the post in the closing stages after a fine pass from Serge Gnabry.

Bayern will now face Inter Milan in the quarter-finals after the Serie A champions saw off Feyenoord. The first leg is set for April 7/8, with the return fixture a week later.
