Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has criticized Nigerians, stating that they often fail to react to important issues. A viral video captured Amaechi speaking at an event in Lagos State, marking his first significant appearance following the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in which he came second to Bola Tinubu, who later emerged as the winner of the presidential poll.
During his speech, Amaechi addressed the issue of alleged certificate forgery, highlighting that politicians rarely deny engaging in such activities as theft or forging school and NYSC certificates. Despite these revelations, Nigerians continue to vote for these politicians. He expressed his frustration, noting that in other countries, serious issues would trigger mass protests, but in Nigeria, such matters are often overlooked.
Amaechi pointed out, “Nigerians don’t react to anything. Has any politician told you he is not a thief? You are shouting ‘forgery’; forgery, Which politician told you he didn’t forge? Which politician told you they went to university? Which politician told you she served in NYSC? And which politician told you he has his certificate?”
He questioned the indifference of Nigerians, stating that they are aware of these issues but still vote for such politicians. He pondered, “Nigerians know and still vote for them, so what’s your problem? No, tell me, what’s your problem? Tell me, why should I speak when there’s already nothing new?”
Amaechi expressed his frustration with the situation, adding, “Nothing bothers Nigerians, so why should I waste my time? I chose to stay in the house quietly. I chose not to speak again because Nigerians will do nothing.”
He ended his speech by remarking on the challenges facing Nigerians and lamented that they often resort to extreme measures. Amaechi stated, “Nigerians are committing suicide. Instead of finding solutions to your problems, you’re committing suicide. I’m praying for you every day that you should continue to commit suicide so that by the time I wake up one day, all of you have died so that I can now reap the benefits of your death by taking those things.”
