Kano state government has canceled the annual traditional Sallah event, Hawan Nassarawa, which is to hold on Thursday, June 6, 2019, for security reasons.
This is coming shortly after a security meeting held between Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and all the security agencies in the state, concerning the Sallah celebrations.
According to a statement signed by the Governors Chief Press Secretary Auwal Anwar, there was an intelligence report for the fear of breach of peace during the upcoming event.
“It is clear to all that, Governor Ganduje is a peace-loving leader, who doesn’t toy with the safety and security of his people and all other citizens living in Kano state.
Therefore For this reason and as a result of an intelligence report of an imminent attack, the state government is not relenting, and it declares Hawan Nassarawa canceled, he stated.
He also explained that after the security meeting, the Kano Metropolitan Emirate Council was duly informed about the intelligence report and the cancellation of Hawan Nassarawa.
“People should move and feel free in these days of Sallah celebration and beyond; as every measure for the state to remain peaceful is taken with all seriousness.” The statement added.
Although the Kano Emirate is yet to comment on the development, the emirate is said to have been fully informed.
