Former Premier League star Clinton Morrison has expressed his surprise at Jordan Henderson’s decision to depart Liverpool and join Al Ettifaq. Having played alongside Henderson at Coventry in 2009, Morrison disclosed that the move was primarily driven by financial reasons.
The midfielder’s move to the Saudi Arabia club has been widely reported, with rumors suggesting he will be earning a staggering £700,000 per week at Al Ettifaq, making it a life-changing opportunity for his family.
“I was surprised because I thought Jordan Henderson would stay at Liverpool. Considering the money being discussed and his age, it’s understandable why he chose to go to Saudi Arabia. It’s a massive financial offer,” Morrison shared with Sky Sports.
Henderson’s new venture will see him working under the guidance of former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, who is leading a promising project at Al Ettifaq. Despite the monetary aspect of the move, Morrison believes Henderson’s desire to be part of this project played a significant role in his decision.
“I know him personally, having played with him at Coventry. From what I know, this move won’t tarnish his legacy. Sometimes, such opportunities are hard to pass up,” Morrison added, emphasizing that the move is not detrimental to Henderson’s reputation.
