Heavy security at PDP headquarters as Anyanwu-led faction hold parallel meetings

Heavy security operatives have taken over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national headquarters in Abuja as two rival factions, each claiming legitimate control of the party, prepare to hold separate meetings at the same venue.

The faction led by Samuel Anyanwu has already arrived at the secretariat, with Anyanwu maintaining that he remains the party’s national secretary until his tenure ends in December. He resumed in his office despite the escalating leadership tussle.

Asked whether he requested the security presence that has barricaded key sections of the premises, Anyanwu confirmed that he did.

He said it is standard procedure for the PDP to invite security agencies whenever major meetings are scheduled, to ensure peace and prevent disruptions.

Anyanwu added that the security personnel were also positioned to handle any “intruders,” a comment clearly aimed at the Turaki-led executive, which has also announced plans to convene its own meeting at the Wadata Plaza headquarters.
