The highly anticipated rematch between British heavyweight boxing stars, Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, has been derailed due to a shocking doping revelation. The bout, initially scheduled to take place next week Saturday at London’s famed O2 Arena, has been called off after Whyte returned an ‘adverse finding’ in a random doping test.
The 35-year-old Whyte finds himself in murky waters once again, as this incident marks his third encounter with anti-doping authorities. In response to the positive test result, Whyte expressed his profound shock and devastation while passionately declaring his innocence. Determined to clear his name, he vowed to go through the process of proving his innocence, urging everyone to withhold judgment until the truth is revealed.
This isn’t the first time Whyte has faced doping allegations. In the past, he served a two-year ban after testing positive for the banned stimulant Methylhexanamine following a victory over Hungary’s Sandor Balogh in 2012. In 2019, he faced another charge by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) but was cleared due to low levels of banned steroid metabolites in his sample.
As the boxing world grapples with the shock of the cancellation, promoter’s attention shifts towards securing another worthy opponent for Anthony Joshua. The Olympic gold medallist and two-time world champion had been eagerly preparing to face his longtime rival Whyte, fueled by their bitter history that began with Whyte’s decision victory over Joshua in their amateur clash back in 2009.
