Herbert Wigwe: Isiokpo youths demand explanation from Nigerian govt, USA

As preparations for the burial of the Herbert Wigwe family intensify, the youths of the community have raised a compelling demand for immediate explanations from both the United States government and the Nigerian government regarding the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Wigwe, his wife, and son.

Wobodo Amadi Jr., the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Isiokpo kingdom, has adamantly called for clarity on the circumstances surrounding the death of their beloved son. He dismissed the recent reports citing weather conditions as the cause of the helicopter crash, demanding a thorough and transparent explanation.

“The US government must come forward and clarify to us, the people of Isiokpo, what led to the death of our son. We will organize a peaceful protest at the American embassy and the Villa (Nigeria’s Seat of power) in Abuja, and we will occupy major roads for two weeks if we are not provided with a convincing reason for this tragic loss. If the weather was indeed unfavorable, then who authorized the pilot to take flight?” Amadi questioned passionately.

He continued, “During the Covid-19 pandemic, Wigwe generously donated N2 billion to the Nigerian government to mitigate the effects of the widespread virus. Yet, the Nigerian government remains silent on his demise. Why the silence? What information are they withholding from us? Our son’s death was not a natural occurrence. We demand answers.”

Regarding the upcoming burial, an emotional Amadi stated that the youths of the community are fully prepared for the event. He mentioned that all the youths will wear black attire on the day of the burial and will be present at the Port Harcourt International Airport to receive the bodies and ensure the security of visitors.

“Every location, including the hotels, will be tightly secured. The youths will collaborate with security agencies such as the Department of State Services (DSS), Police, and the Army to guarantee the safety of everyone before, during, and after the burial next week. A candlelight vigil will also be held in his honor,” Amadi added.
