Herdsmen amputate 60-year-old man in Minna

The Chief Magistrates Court in Minna, Niger State has ordered the detention of two herdsmen in the state police command’s detention facility for allegedly chopping off their 60 year-old father’s hand.

The suspects are to be remanded till September 26, 2022.

The accused persons identified as Bello Usman, 25 and Shehu Abubakar also, 25, were said to have conspired along with Shede Umar and another person identified as Kai to commit the crime.

But Umar and Kai are said to be at large.

The Court remanded the suspects after they were arraigned by the police command on two counts bordering on criminal conspiracy and causing grievous hurt, which contravene sections 97 and 246 of the penal code of the state.

The suspects told the court that their initial plan was not to chop off their father’s hand, but only to rustle his cattle.

Following their confession, Chief Magistrate Hajiya Fati Hassan Umar ordered the police to go after the other suspects at large Umar and Kai and subsequently arraign them.

The court also ordered the father and the guardian of the fleeing suspects to produce their wards in court on September 26, 2022.

The victim was taken to the court from the hospital where he was receiving medical attention.
