Herdsmen kill Tiv man, wipe out his entire family

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have reportedly killed a family of four Tiv farmers on their way to farm at Antsa village of Kwarra district in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The occurrence of the incident has renewed tension in the state, as another attack allegedly carried out by the same suspected herdsmen on Tiv farmers took place at Gada-Biu village in Obi Local
Government Area of the state leading to the death of one Aondovihi Tuur while another, Virlumun Atsaga is currently missing as over twenty others were inflicted with various degrees of matchet cuts.

The fresh attacks which is coming barely after a cease-fire agreement brokered between the Tiv farmers and the Fulani herdsmen in Nasarawa State have cast doubt over the sincerity of the both the federal and state governments in returning lasting peace in communities ravaged by herdsmen attacks in the state. recently.

“As I speak to you, security operatives have been mobilised and are on their way to recover the butchered corpses from the farm
where the killings took place to Kadarko town.” an eyewitness said.

The names of the slain Tiv family includes the father of the family, Mr Utindi Kyor; his son Shie-Aondo; his son’s wife, Dedzugwen;
and his grand son, Boyi.

The chairmen of Mzough U Tiv in Nasarawa, Mr Thomas Gar while Speaking to journalists on the resumed killings of Tiv farmers in Nasarawa State by the suspected Fulani herdsmen, said the family of four were killed on their way to farm.

“The young man was going to his farm alongside his wife and child when they were intercepted by the suspected Fulani herdsmen and
collected the young man’s phone and forced him to call his father to come so that they will release them.”

“Unknowing to the young man, he called his father to the spot, but instead both the young man, the wife, the child and the father that
came were all killed instantly.”

The State Mzough U Tiv chairman, however, lamented that since Vice President Yemi Osinbajo visited the state there appears to be no peace for the Tiv people of Nasarawa State.

“The vice president came barely about a month ago and all our expectations were that there will be peace, but unfortunately, there
is no peace in our communities.”

“Up till now, nobody has gone back to the places of their abode, and the farming season is fast running out and they are still hanging around in the neighbouring communities.”

“But as I speak, we have minimum security personnel on the ground and the Tiv people are still stranded in various IDPs camps because they have not gone back to their places of abode,”.

Mr Gar reminded that when Osinbajo visited Nasarawa State, he left a promise that a lot of security personnel would be deployed to
the affected communities.

He went further urging the government to do more in alleviating the sufferings of the Tiv farmers in the state.

“the Tiv people in the southern senatorial district of the state are still suffering and are still trapped in the IDPs camps.” Mr Gar said.

When the Nasarawa State police command was contacted over the Antsa killings, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Samail
Usman said that the police was yet to be briefed on matter as at the time of this report.
