Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Comrade Dr. Austin Agada, has raised concerns over what he described as the activities of “fake Reverend Fathers” and self-styled clerics, warning that a time of accountability is approaching in the state.

Dr. Agada made the remarks on December 26 while addressing a large gathering of party leaders, stakeholders and community members at his residence in Owukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area, during his annual grassroots engagement.

Speaking before an estimated crowd of over 2,000 people, the APC chairman cautioned against the misuse of religion for personal or political gain, stressing that integrity and moral responsibility must guide both religious and political leadership. He noted that the people of Benue deserve honest leadership anchored on truth, service and accountability.

“Any reverend that will have children is not a reverend father. But I tell you, a time for reckoning is coming in Benue State,” he said.

According to him, the era of deception and exploitation under any guise is gradually coming to an end, adding that leaders who mislead the people will ultimately be exposed.

Dr. Agada also used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to grassroots development and inclusive leadership, stating that direct engagement with the people remains the most effective way to understand their needs and aspirations.

As part of the empowerment programme at the event, the APC chairman distributed ₦5 million in cash support to businesswomen, 800 bags of rice to party members and community groups, as well as wrappers to various support groups in attendance.

He expressed gratitude to God for protection and guidance, thanked supporters for their continued loyalty, and assured them that he would not betray the trust placed in him. Dr. Agada further reiterated his loyalty to his political leader and mentor, Distinguished Senator Dr. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, pledging to continue to protect and sustain the political structure built over the years.

Several leaders present at the gathering delivered goodwill messages, commending Dr. Agada for his consistency, generosity and commitment to integrity. They encouraged him to remain steadfast in his service to the people and the party.

Religious leaders and support groups also offered prayers for the APC chairman and presented symbolic gifts, including plantain, kolanuts, palm oil and a live goat, in appreciation of his leadership and support for the grassroots.

The event, which marked the fourth consecutive edition of the annual interface since Dr. Agada assumed office, was described by attendees as well-organised and impactful, recording a massive turnout from across Ogbadibo Local Government Area.
