Hilda Baci reveals how she was disowned by her father

Renowned Nigerian chef Hilda Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has opened up about her estrangement from her biological father, Effiong Bassey Edem. This revelation came during her recent interview on the ‘Tea with Tay’ podcast hosted by Taymesan.

Hilda spoke about her complex relationship with her father, highlighting that he had been a part of their lives while they were children. However, a significant turning point occurred when a heated argument between her parents took a toll on the children.

She revealed, “For me, I will say one of the biggest issues was when he abandoned me. He didn’t abandon me from the beginning. He was present in our lives to some extent.”

Hilda continued to share the moment when she realized her father’s disconnection from her life, “But it dawned on me when my dad and mom had issues, and I was in my 300 level second semester at university. I distinctly remember our conversation on one matriculation day. I called him, complaining that he hadn’t brought me any food, and his response was, ‘Who’s your dad?’ It later became clear to me, years after, that he wasn’t joking.”
